Muhammed claimed the Koran was dictated to him by Gabriel. Jewish legend says it was Gabriel who dealt death and destruction to Sodom and Gomorrah. Gabriel appeared to Daniel to tell of the coming of the Messiah, to Zacharias to tell of the coming of John the Baptist and later to Mary at the Annunciation, in which he tells her that she is to bear a child who will be the Son of God and the Messiah.
