HISTORY: The French named her the Venus of Milo. In 1820 a peasant named Yorgos found her broken body in an underground cavern on the Aegean island of Melos. She was taken from Greece under unclear circumstances to Paris where she would be admired by millions of visitors to Louvre Museum. Aphrodite was the Greek Goddess of Love, identified in Rome with Venus.
